$25.00

Blooming in late summer-early fall, woodbine or virgin’s bower (Clematis virginiana) is covered in showy, sweetly-scented white flowers that are 1-inch across. Woodbine is a fast-growing vine that grows 12 to 20 feet with stems that twine around a trellis or nearby plants. Male and female plants are need for fertilization and seed production. While the individual blooms are small, they are so profuse that they make a for a showy display.

Clematis is toxic to dogs and cats and can cause severe mouth pain and ulcers if eaten. In humans, symptoms may include dizziness, confusion, fainting, and convulsions. It is rarely fatal because its bitter taste limits the amount that would be ingested. Some people are susceptible to contact dermatitis resulting in skin redness and burning sensation and gardening gloves are recommended.
