Common sneezeweed (Helenium autumnale) is an upright clumping native perennial wildflower that grows to a height of  3 to 5 feet. This adaptable plant will grow in any site that has sun or part sun and wet to moist soils and is moderately salt-tolerant. In autumn foliage is crowned by an abundance of golden daisy-like flower heads. The blooms are visited by throngs of pollinators. It should be cut back in early summer to encourage branching and increase flowers.

The common name of Sneezeweed is based on historic use of the crushed dried leaves and heads to make a form of snuff that caused sneezing. Northern Mockingbirds, sparrows, and Brown Thrashers use sneezeweed.
